The Dallas 诺伊斯学者 Program
The Dallas 诺伊斯学者 Program provides scholarships to college students who want to become middle and high school math teachers in the Dallas area.
诺伊斯学者 得到30美元,000 for Junior and Senior years at SMU, with additional merit- and need-based scholarships available. 在那段时间里, students earn a double major in mathematics and education and begin teaching in a local school, with a commitment to continue teaching for four years.
Students are selected for the Dallas 诺伊斯学者 Program based on their commitment to a teaching career and desire to teach math in a high-needs school. Some 诺伊斯学者 come to SMU as transfers and others are current SMU undergraduates.
In addition to financial support, other benefits include:
- Community-focused coursework enabling them to connect with the Dallas area
- Field experiences in the communities in which they will teach after graduation
- Training in working with students for whom English is not their first language
- Cohort mentoring and community building with other students in the program
All applicants are eligible to apply for the Charles-Butt-Scholarship 也.
After completing coursework, 诺伊斯学者 work as student teachers or teacher interns in Dallas schools under supervision of SMU faculty. After completing their student teaching or internships, 诺伊斯学者 are certified to teach in Texas public schools, and the program assists with placement options within Dallas ISD.
